Young families starting out in life may currently live in a modern box, a contemporary container as I like to call them, but when growing families decide on building their own "family house" they almost always choose a traditional design, the Country House. Be it a Farm House, or the traditional front porch classical design, or a Craftsman design, it's the country house where families wish to make a home. I like to call it the "Walton's Complex" after the traditional family show, The Waltons. Maybe it's the warmth of the elevation with wide porches filled with swings and potted plants, intricate trim and windows with shutters. Or maybe it's the warmth of wood floors wide inviting kitchens becoming the heart of the home. Ultimately, I think it's husbands and wives who seek calm, stability, tradition, a house that can pass from generation to generation. Since I cut my teeth on the traditional house design being from Northern New Jersey and working with Fred Klenk Architect Inc, designing estate homes in Bergen County, I know how to design the perfect family house.
